On AC units the size of a unit is in tons. like your unit there you said its 5900 Btu thats about 1/2ton one ton is 12000 Btu. If some one said they had a 3 ton AC that would put out 36000 Btu of cool.

i would still like to know why the compresser cuts out is it because is overheating is it low on coolent if so the compresser should hum a few times before starting but it starts right up so what could the problem be non of the vents are blocked maby it is just old and on its way out could it be fixed or should i just get rid of it is it safe cause i said i think the blower motor is overheating or is it the compresser i smell if the outside temp is 90 or above it will run for 15 min quit for 10 run for 15 quit for 10 so what could be causing it bad t-stat i know one time the compresser would not come on at all no hum no nothing like i was not set to cool just fan so is this something i should worry about is it safe it won't burn untill the outside temp is 85-90 or higher in michigan thats not very often in michigan we could get snow in july it as not happen but in michigan who knows we have crazy weather could be causeing a stran on the compresser and blower moter it only has one moter that turns both the radiator fan and the cooling coil fan the one that blow air inside so whats the problem:confused:

If you've got it out of the window and on the ground you should be able to remove the screws to take the cabinet off and hose the coils down really good. It could just be that the condensor is dirty and overheating.

You want to take off the entire metal or plastic housing that covers the whole unit.

Please do all of us a favor, and use some punctuation in your posts. They are very hard to read.:)
I think you would be well ahead to retire your Airtemp, and buy a new one. The efficiency will be MUCH higher, and if you put a price on your time and energy you have invested in this unit, you will ultimately save money.

You may be right it works but its old also the company that make's it (FEDDERS) is no longer in operation (at least here in Michigan) there website only tells about the units they have already made you can not buy them anymore.

Consult your local yellow pages for a repair shop. Ask them if they do house calls.
By the way, I am curious as to why you feel that "New air conditioners suck"?

Lexmerk: It would cost more for a service company to look at it and make any repairs than it would cost for a new one.
