I'm looking for an exterminator to inspect my house for termites.
What is the standard process for doing this? i.e, Should I call a company out for a termites inspection and if termites are found, consider treatment with them?
What are reasonable costs for all of this?
Thanks,
Lam

I have to assume you have a reason to get an inspection. I would contact 3 or more companies and ask what they charge for inspection. If you are going to get a company to do continuous inspections and other pest (ants, roaches etc) control, ask what their annual charges are. When they come out, ask what they are looking for in terms of termite infestation. Some, not so ethical companies, will "find" things that do not exist. Look for companies that have been around a while. Nothing against the new guys but I want to know they are not "fly by night" outfits. Good luck.

I saw some ants in our front yard, and never had a termites inspections when we moved in 3 years ago. So I just want to have the inspection done to have peace of mind.
I called one company and they said their inspection is free, they only charge for treatments.
Thanks for your advises.

Thats an odd comment dragon!!!
"I have to assume you have a reason to get an inspection."
If you live in an area where there are drywood or subteranean termites, you need no other motivation than, its plain common sense.
Lam, by all means ring around. Some companies carry out free inspections. I would caution you against these people, as you usually wind up getting exactly what you pay for.
In USA, most are under $100. Obviously, the time taken to carry out an inspection is worth something to pest controller, and if he does a "free" inspection, he may well be looking for something else to charge you for to compensate his time spent on the inspection.
I carry out several hundred inspections every year, thats how I derive a good portion of my income, and for the greater part I find no termites, nothing that is conducive to termites attacking their home and give the owner a clear result and with no recommendation to do a treatment. Logically, if I see a need for a treatment, I will recommend so, but will deduct the cost of the inspection off the total bill.
There are many pest controllers in USA with a similar method of doing business and I would strongly suggest you engage same.
