Could you discuss the pros and cons of using
silicone caulk versus plumbers putty for faucet
and drain installations?
I am about to replace the faucets on my cultured marble
lavatories and worry about the oils in plumbers putty.
I have seen articles saying to use plumbers putty and
othes saying to use silicone caulk.
If silicone caulk is used, what should you look for and avoid?
White, clear, paintable, "tub and tile", there are so many variations?
Thanks,
Jim

Do NOT use plumbers putty on marble. Most cans will tell you this and so will the instructions for marble. The oil will stain it. Use 100% silicone. I would use clear so there is no distraction from the beauty of the marble. Many faucets come with a gasket so no seal is needed. The drain, go with the silicone. Good luck.
