Since i have 2 boys that are potty training at the same time, i decided to replace my 15 year old builders grade crappy (no pun intended ;) ) toilet.
I shopped long and hard and bought an elgier "titan"...i wanted the one with the best flushing power i could find AND one that would fit.
Here is my problem...from the floor to the countertop i only have 29 1/2 inches and between lowes and HD the titan was the only one that was short enough to fit...well, i was wrong. i thought i would have 1 inch clearance but i didnt.
basically, my question is if anyone knows of a "high performance" toilet that is short enough to fit?? How much clearance should i give myself?
another question...the toilet was a little "rocky", can i just shim it and caulk it??
thanks!!

Sounds like you need a one-piece toilet. They are lower profile. The thing to check is the exit hole and if the trap has porcelain all the way through it. These are two big problems. If you look at the toilet display at HD, they usually have the information listed on each model. I have seen openings from 1-1/2" to 2-3/8". The lack of porcelain throughout the trap allows TP and solids to hang-up in the trap and create problems. You can purchase plastic toilet shims at HD. Caulking is fine but I would suggest you leave the backside of the bowl open in case you have a seal failure in the future. The open back will allow you to see water rather than trapping it until it rots out the floor and causes major damage. Good luck.

thanks dragon.
i have found some Toto toilets on the internet (1 piece). reviews are great on them and they look like they might fit.
however, they are 27 1/2" tall, that would leave me with 1-2 inches clearance...would that be enough room to install the toilet (getting the wax ring down and up and over the bolts)??
thanks again.

Thats awful close. Only way I see of doing it is to set the back of the toilet down and then lower the front. You MAY be able to put some blocking under the front (after sitting it in the general area) and then install the wax seal and bolts and sit it down over the bolts. Tight fit though.
