What length screws do you recommend for 5/4 PT deck boards?

Should the screws be countersunk and if so how do you prevent the wood from splintering around the screw head?

Lastly, what kind of screws would you recommend? SS, HD galvanized or a partic. brand such as Deck-mate?

Thanks!

Tom

Tom: Using the Deckmate screws on PT is just fine, and if you get a good enough run at it, they will sink themselves pretty good. I always like to drill and countersink the end holes, as that is where a good deal of splitting occurs. Midspan is usually OK. 2 1/2" screws will do just fine in the PT, but you may not find anything but 3" at the big boxes.

The only thing to add to what Larry said would be that Trap Ease screws will work just as well.
