I'm looking to hang some old kitchen wall cabinets in my garage. The garage walls are drywall with wood studs.

My question, should I install a 2x4 header across the top and bottom of the cabinet locations (attached to the studs) or should I simply attached the cabinets direct to the wall (to the studs)?

Without cutting the drywall, the headers will leave me with a gap behind the cabinets, however, it would be easier to hit the studs using the headers.

Thanks!
Scott

Screw the cabinets into the studs and if you have two or more cabinets side by side, screw the cabinet faces together.

I agree. That is how they were installed in your house, so the garage won't be any different.
