Hi all, I'm new here but have a real need for a quick answer. I have the oportunity (Home Warranty, long story) to have a Fedders central air unit installed for $1200 or I can take $2000 and buy any brand I choose. I can't find any thing about fedders except that they appear to make bad window units. Does any one have any information on Fedders central air conditioner units?

Did a/c work for many years in Louisiana and Fedders had a really bad reputation due to using rotary compressors which failed in this climate.
Not sure how their new stuff is, but I would rather the money and purchase my own after research. Personally, down here I like the Rheem units. Good value and we have had very few problems over the years.
Good luck.

Having experience with home warranty contractors, I suggest you take the $2K & get your own contractor.
I will tell you the same as I have told everyone who asks about one brand vs. another. Installation is 90%+ of the job. Cheap equipment with a top notch installation will outperform & outlast top notch equipment with a cheap installation everytime.

I agree with Grady.
Take the 2k and go else where! LOT of the service company do not like home warranity company since they are very cheap.
