what's the best method for affixing an asphalt-impregnated expansion joint to a brick foundation (for a concrete patio)?

Concrete nails through the expansion and into the mortar joints. However, a better product is foam expansion joint. It is 1/2 inch thick by 4 inches tall and comes in 50 foot long rolls. It has a scored top edge (1/2 inch) that can be removed after the concrete hardens. It then leaves a 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch trench that can be easily caulked. The foam expansion can be affixed to the wall with spray adhesive, and will not rot out and deteriorate like the asphalt impregnated fiber does. Menards carries it, as well as a lot of concrete ready mix plants or contractor's supply businesses. Good luck on your project.
