I have a second-floor south-facing bedroom that is served by a 12" return duct and a 7" supply duct. The room heats up during the day and doesn't cool down enough in the evening. I could add a second 7" supply duct, but I can't help but think that I need to move the hot air out of the room faster. Would the room cool faster if I installed an inline duct fan in the return to increase the draw of warm air out of the room? If so, can I wire that to a dedicated thermostat in the bedroom (the main thermostat is on the first floor) so it will come on automatically in the adternoon?

If you have a 12" return in that room, it should be more than enough return. How big is this room?
