Hi all I just got one of those air conditioners that you install in the window. I am going to design it so I can install it in the wall. Installing it in the window would seriously mess up the appearance of the house and room. The only spot in the wall that is a good spot is where the back end of it is underneath a deck outside. I am concerned about ventilation problems. The deck does seem to have somewhat good ventilation. The sides are made up of lattice work while the top is 2 by 6 boards with a 1 inch gap. underneath the deck is about 17 feet by 17 feet by 4 feet. There are vines that run up the lattice work and bushes near them that might restrict air flow. What do you gyes think about this. Thanks

The ventilation is iffy. If you limit the vines it may be ok.
The other problem is if you put this through the wall you must be sure that the side vents are not blocked.

The side vents will be ok. Perhaps I could put a thermometer down there to monitor the temp. If it ever exceeds a certain temp then I will know it is bad and I should cut down vines, or put a fan under there or something. I do live in North Dakota though so keeping cool isn't a year long thing. It does get up in the 100 at times so I could have some problems. What temp would you concider a criticle temparature if I put a theremometer down there. Thanks for helping.;)

Keep in mind that the heat the is being removed from the coil would want to travel directly above the decking area.

Ya, very true coolmen. It is a good thing there is 1' gaps between the boards. Ill go on ahead with the installation and monitor the heat down there. If it is a bad thing and there is a excess heat buildup under the deck what would happen to the ac unit. Would it just turn into being quite inefficient. Thank you much

If it gets too hot, the cooling capaicity drops, power is used, and may shorten the life of the unit. Also, the compressor may over heat and shut down.
