I have a 17 year old rheem Central air system i have round honeywell thermostats when i take it off auto and go to fan on the condenser fan runs also is this normal because i was told by someone it is not?

The only time the outdoor unit should be running is if the stst is calling for cooling.

No, it's not right.


TURN OFF POWER, and remove the t-stat, and should only be one wire going to G and also only one wire going to Y.

Are these wires alone? or are they jumpred over to one another?

They MUST be alone.. R may have a wire going to Rc.

There is one wire going to RC There is one wire going to G and there is one wire going to Y

I would remove the wire on Y at the t-stat and see what happens.

If the outdoor unit don't run then sounds like a defetive t-stat.
