I have an older gas furnace\AC (Bryant, 150,000 BTU). The Fan control Center has a relay that runs the the high speed fan winding when the AC is running or the Thermostat is set to Fan on.

I like to run the fan all the time, but the fan control relay gets very hot....the metal parts are too hot to touch! I replaced the relay but the new relay does the same thing:thumbdn:

So the question is, is this normal?
is the heat due to current across the relay contacts or from the coil that energizes the it? SInce I only use one set of poles in the relay would it makes sense to tie them together to half the current flowing through each set of contacts.

Could there be a problem with the fan?

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

:)

From the coil. This is normal.
