I will be replacing my hot water heater and was wondering if my current 5 gallon expansion tank can be re-used, or do I need to purchase a new one? I will need to relocate the tank from its current location since it practically sits on top of my current hot water heater, and the new heater will be taller than the one in place. If I can reuse it, would I need to have it refilled to my lines pressure? I don't have an air compressor, so would Lowes or Home Depot be able to fill it for me, or would I have to call a plumber?
Thanks,

If your tank is still holding pressure there is no reason that you can't use it over. Your charge should be approx. equal to your incomming water pressure, you can check your tank with a tire gage. Any manual tire pump can be used to charged the tank. If you have to take it somewhere, try a gas station, it might cost you 50 cents to pump it up. BTW, keep your tank as close to the water heater as possible. Lots of luck.
