Hi,
Not sure if in correct forum but here goes:
I had a new front deck put on at end of last Fall. I didn't have time to seal it~ I know- big mistake. The builder warned me.
Anyways, now it's wintered in Boston and doesn't look as nice/fresh as it did in Oct...
Is it too late to get a water based coat of whatever on there?
(I was told not to use oil base since they also put a rubber roof underneath)
The wood's kinda gray/silver colored in areas now vs the lovely auburn color it was when 1st built... (hope my builder doesn't drive by)
I do not want to paint it. I also don't want to "color stain it"
I just want to protect it (better late than never?):(
Thanks!
deb

Bleach or wood deck cleaner should bring the color back to wood.
There aren't many latex clear or transparent stains to chose from although there are a number of waterborne formulas that are clear or have a light tint. Usually the more tint that a sealer/stain has the longer it will last. Clear watersealers like thompsons typically only last for 6-12 months. Most of the transparent stains will last a few years - when it comes to stain/paint you do get what you pay for.

The reason they said not to use oil base is if a good amount of oil base stain/sealer drips down onto the rubber it could comprimise it.
