my 35 yr old weilmclain furnace is almost done for. replaced the coil twice. veery hard water cause corrosion. my problem is - i need to have some idea about oil-fired furnaces. rheem, american standard, peerless, and weilmclain all advertise, but i have NO idea what the basic differences are. each contractor wants to promote his particular choice. i am too dumb (and too old) to ask the proper questions. i look at these archives, but didn't get a feel for what to look for. how best to get info without having every salesman within a 25 mi radius at my door.

A system 2000 will give you about an 85% efficiency and unlimited hot water. Very efficient and it runs quietly.

It seems you are actually looking for a boiler instead of a furnace. Yazer seems to like System 2000, I do not like them at all. One of my favorites in a moderately priced boiler is Crown's CT series. You could move up to a Burnham MPO or Buderus but its a pretty good step in price too. I've installed lots of CT's with the Mega-Stor indirect water heater & had zero complaints. I prefer the Riello burner on them because they burn cleaner. Here are a couple of links for you.
