I had a problem with some of the dials being changed on my softner. I have no idea were the manual is. I have one of the older style softners that has the stacked dials. Can somone help me with the settings. I do remeber the water being tested and was told it had a hardness of 20 grains. The water is very very salty right now.

If your valve has the 24 hour gear in the center of the valve and the stacked gears (people dial & capacity dial) to the right, then it is probably a Fleck 5600 Econominder valve. If the water tastes salty, then the typical reasons include a plugged injector screen, brine valve, brine valve flow control, or the timer is not functioning.

You can program it one of two ways:
1. Life the people dial and rotate it so that the # of people in your household is aligned to the water hardness (20 grains per gallon in your case). This allows for a reserve capacity based on 75 gallons of water used per person per day.

2. Calculate the gallons capacity of your system and deduct 1/3 as your reserve capacity. Align the # of gallons available with the white dot on the program wheel to use this more optimal choice.

If you go to www.fleckcontrols.com, you'll be able to download the owners manual for more information. Hope this helps. If you have a different valve, then feel free to email me a picture of your valve for other information. Thanks.
