Electronic Alarms and Home Security Devices - Ademco 5816, Loop1 and 30 feet of Wire

I am trying to use a 5816 transmitter in a detached garage. I am using the wired loop. There are three magnetic contacts in the loop. The total length is about 30 feet of 22 AWG. I get the 5816 to register with the panel, the tamper works fine but I cannot get the loop to work. Is there a limit on how much wire can be in the loop? The UL says 3 feet maximum. Total distance from the 5816 to the receiver is 60 feet. My guess is that I have way too much wire in this loop but I cannot find the limit in the documentation.

I think I may know what I did wrong. It's the first wireless zone other than keyfobs. I put it on zone 20 which is also used by the second zone expander module. I will move it to zone 25. I may actually be starting to understand this stuff.

30 feet is _way_ too long a wire run for a wireless transmitter (remember, this thing is being powered by a pretty small lithium battery).

In practice, anything more than about 10ft is asking for false alarms.

I am curious. What happens when there are 2 zone expander modules and you assign a wireless zone to one of the zones already taken by the zone expander?

If I remember Ademco protocals correctly, the hardwired zone module has priority, but I _think_ that if the zone is set as a wireless zone in zone programming you can mix the two types of expander zones. It's only the first 9 zones that are hard coded as hardwired zones.
