Fireplaces, Heating Stoves, Flues and Chimneys - cover tile with metal?? help sugestions?

I have an ugly white kitchen tile around my fireplace and I want to cover it. I am open to sugestions but I would really like the look of metal, I can not find anything on that. I want to do this myself as money is an issue and I am willing to give anything a shot. thanks!

I don't know if it would be classified as a diy project, but in acquiring metal that would fit your opening, someone would have to cut the metal to fit, meaning a fabricator would come and take measurements, and cut it offsite to those specs. Installing it would be with heat resistant adhesive.
Personally I would pull the existing tile and replace them with a darker gray, mottled effect tile, to dampen the lightness of the "kitchen" tile. Grout with black, and I think you would have the effect you want without having to go to the trouble of having the opening effectively redone by a fabricator.

Your idea is good and I like the look of the fireplace you did, I still am stuck on the metal idea, I found metal tambour and thought I might give that a try, I like the look of it , a little art deco, if I can work with it. If I can not , I will have to remove the tile and try it your way. Thanks for the help, I have never put in tile but I am sure I can give it a try!

Have you considered using metal tiles? A quick google search turned up lots of options that might be much easier to install but give a nice look. Just an idea.
