I am thinking of building a small deck using composite lumber. My question is does the framing have to be wood or is there composite stuff out there. We are worried about rotting and termites especially up against the house.

Deck framing is generally done with ACQ PT lumber, simply because of the price. NONE of the composites can be used structurally. There is structural plastic lumber available (google that), but the cost is generally prohibitive (and they even tell you that right in their web sites).

Given decent ground clearance, proper ventilation, and avoiding places that can trap water, ACQ will last probably 20 to 25 years.
