We are shopping around for insurance and I'm hoping I can get opinions from everybody here about which ones to avoid and which ones you have had a good experience with. thanks.

We've had State Farm on vehicles and homes for about 25 years and have been as satified as is possible with insurance companies. No complaints. One company I WILL not do business with [and I'll admit up front they may very well be a good company and I'm being hard-headed about it] is GEICO. When I was in my early 20's and GEICO was not available to the general public [Government Employees Insurance Company] my insurance with another carrier was up for renewal and I sent in one of those postcard rate quote requests [from Navy Times]. GEICO sent me back a rate quote that saved me some bucks. I sent them a check. THEY sent ME back a form letter saying, sorry but you don't meet our requirements [GEICO at that time was VERY picky on who they insured, but I had a clean record]. HUH? Send me a quotation for insurance that you won't sell me?

Best advise is to really shop around. I did this out of necessity. Major companies (even the one I have my vehicles with) could not come within $600 a year of the one I got. I got more coverage at a lower rate and I also checked with people I knew that filed claims with them. I am in a rural area so maybe Farm Bureau Ins is not available in your area. Getting it cheap is not good if you can't file a claim without being cancelled later. Good luck.

Heh, that's interesting. My experience has been exactly the opposite. State Farm dropped me for an accident that wasn't my fault, GEICO has been fabulous for years.

I'd say "look at the big picture" before purchasing. What do they offer, what is their AM Best customer service/claims rating, what is their complaint history in your state, are they financially viable in case of a disaster.
If you want "cheap" then go for the internet companies. If you want quality and expertise, go with a national company that provides agents who can sit down with you and package an entire insurance plan that fits yours and you family's needs.
Allstate is cancelling earthquake/hurricane coverage across the country because they weren't prepared for the disasters they've experienced. State Farm is super huge and may not always be willing to pay claims so readily, Farmers seems to be set well and has a good reputation for customer service. Many companies just quote the cheapest and hope they get your business, but you're left holding the bag if you're underinsured in an accident.

It's been my experience that a good agent can be just as important as the insurance company. I generally find state farm to be difficult from a collection standpoint, but I've seen some of their agents go to bat for the customer and get things paid.

Check out your state's insurance dept for the customer service ratings of any insurer you're considering. You may be very suprised at what companies are difficult to deal with on a claim. Being an independent agent, I have great things to say about Kemper Auto & Home, Hanover Insurance, St Paul Travelers and GMAC from claims service. There are many carriers that I would avoid if I were buying car/home/business/life insurance for myself. Insurance Guy.

Thanks for the tips I've search around and compare the insurance that available like AllState Insurance, AAA Insurance and Geico Insurance. By this I will know which is affordable and suite for me. I checked out an online company. They're kinda like brokers 'cause they have a couple of companie here of which i think they'll contact then i'll get to choose which one i'd prefer. have you experienced this?
