I am planning on getting a water softner but not sure what to go with. I talked to culligan and they said I could get it installed for $1600.00. Kinda expensive I think. I went to lowes to check out what they had. I've seen the water boss and the Morton system saver, which is best? I realize that getting parts might be an issue where if I go with culligan I really don't have to worry about that for a year (warranty). I need to find out what everybody thinks. I was told my the culligan guy that if I istalled it it would save me about $200.00 plus he said that he would throw in salt for a year. Is it worth it? I don't want to save money or cut corners now if it is going to be a pain in the future if something breaks. Whats the life of lowes softner anyways? What do you guys think I should do? One more thing what is a electronic water conditioner by Scale Watcher? Confussed what to do. Thanks:confused:

broncos,

First, the electronic scale watcher (and any other "catalytic" conditioner) has no credible backing of claims for hardness reduction in either residential or commercial water treatment.

The choice of a water softening system starts with a water analysis to help determine a proper treatment. That data along with your installation requirements & houshold occupancy will lead you to a system choice right for you.

Systems that big box retailers carry are intended for basic municipal water hardness and typically last a few years. The repairs are often more than the replacement cost which is why many of us in the industry commonly refer to these units as "disposable water softeners."

Feel free to post your water quality data here for some recommendations from the members of this forum.
