Beckett "AFG" burner with Honeywell "protectorelay" (R8184M-1002) Oil Primary Control. Plenty of oil in the tank, fan motor rotates freely, power vent operates properly, reset (red button) pops up after 45 seconds of no ignition (as it is suppose to). However, the fan motor in the burner unit is not kicking in (as if motor/and primary transformer were getting no power at all) and therefore there is no ignition. No oil is getting into the firebox because the motor is not running. System is 6 years old. I suspect the problem is with the Oil Primary Relay however I want to be sure before I go out and buy a new unit to replace it. Any suggestions?

Check for 120 volts ac between the white and orange leads while the thermostat is "calling for heat" and before the 45 second safety timer trips. If you have no power the R8184 is bad, if you do have power the burner motor MAY be bad or it may have a manual reset overload that has tripped. Look for a button (usually, but not always, red) in the end of the burner motor.

The problem could be with the power venter. They have safety devices which will not allow the burner to be powered unless there is sufficient draft. Checking orange to white will only tell you there is power out of orange. This usually feeds the venter in one way or another. Power then comes back from the venter assembly to the burner motor. That connection is the place to check for 120 volts.
