I have a DSC 1550. I would like to add a dialer so that I can self monitor (call my cell phone). What equipment would you recommend or would I be better off putting in a new system that is designed to do this. If so, what system do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

If its just a simple message to be sent or set of digits to a pager we usually use a Visonic DL-125c. They are fairly cheap to purchase and we havnt had an issue with one yet.

If the alarm system is otherwise working well for you, the add-on voice dialer unit really is the most cost effective solution.

Thanks for the input guys. I have not done any alarm instlation before but I do have a backgound in computers and electionics. How hard is it for the average joe to install this? I know the 1550 is a peace of work to program. I have the install manual.

Once again, Thanks for your input.

No programming involved as far as the 1550 is concerned (other than prehaps turning off the dialer). This add on unit is triggered by the voltage from the alarm's siren terminals.

Could you please tell me if once the voice dialer is purchased, is there a way I can get it to send me a text message. I am the same system as the original poster, and know that I can call your cell, 8 times (be nice to change that) but can I get it to send me a txt message with the problem code?

Thanks
TS

The voice dialers are pretty simple in their programming. It can't do what you want, basically it's a digital audio recorder with a built in telephone. They send a audio message when the other end picks up. That's it.

Basically, there are a few recent vintage alarm systems that have a pager format that can sometimes be tweaked to send a text, but it takes a little clever programming, and the phone provider's texting system needs to have specific features.

The PC 1550 is a "old school" system. It's design predates the concept of cell phones as a common personal item.
