hi, we bought a new house. they are giving vinyl in the kitchen and rest of the house(family, dinig & living) for carpet. but we are planning to put laminate blocked flooring in kitchen, family & dining. we have a kitchen with family room, dining with living room is there. Is it good idea to put laminate blocked flooring except living room. They charged for laminate blocked(kitchen, family, dinig & living) $12000 for 925 sq.ft. its AC3 and 30 yeras warranty. its coming with some layer under the laminate blocked flooring. another thing is hardwood is also same cost for these places. Is it worth to put laminate blocked flooring? or after we move into the house then we'll install the laminate blocked with homedepot or lewes? how about armstrong natures gallery? Can somebody explain and which one is better? Thankyou

I am not clear about your question. But I would never pay 13.00 a sq.ft. for a laminate install. That amount is way over a good floating hardwood install in my area too. Is this what the builder is charging you for a change order upgrade?

Hi Jerry T, Thanks for reply. Yes, Its upgrade. What about hardwood flooring? Is that amount good for 925 sq.ft? Which one is better? and can we install through homedepot? thankyou

if you can get hardwood for the same price as laminate, get the hardwood!

Hi, can anybody has any idea on Quickstep uniclic "eligna" laminate flooring? Thankyou

Quickstep's product line looks good and has decent market saturation. Other than that it isn't any more durable than any other laminate. I would, if I were you, stop thinking about laminate at that rate. The amount that the builder wants you to pay is not quite double what you should pay for it, but pretty darned close. Might I ask, is your builder charging you the same for the wood flooring? And if so, what sort of wood flooring is it?
I think you are getting gouged, but that is my personal opinion. I know some of the more expensive highway stores around where I am (and they are in no way giving anyone a break on price) charge 5.50 per foot on Wilsonart material, and that is considered one of the best brands out there. Installation will probably run you 2-2.50 a foot so you are looking at 7-8 a foot and not 12...
Of course there are incidentals such as padding, but that should cost about $0.20-0.50 a foot, depending on what you get.
