I have 2 interior archways in my home that are bare and I'd like to hang curtains in them to add color, warmth, and drama. Are there any ideas here on how to do this? The arch is presenting a problem. I don't want to hang a straight rod and cover up the arches. Is there a way to use some kind of hooks and make something myself? I'd really like to have long curtains of some sort rather than just a valance type of covering. Any ideas on how to solve this little problem?

You can find all sorts of knobs at Home Depot or Lowes, if you're hanging them outside the arch. If you want to hang them inside the arch, you can use screw eyes, and hook in drapery pins on pleated panels. Are you making them or having them made, because the top would need to be made in an arch shape, or the bottom will become the arch  Also, they should look good from both sides :)

also make sure that once hung, someone walking thru the passageway won't be rubbing their head on the fabric every time. having to position yourself exactly in the middle to avoid that would become annoying after a while.

how tall & wide are these arched openings?

The top of the arch is about 7 feet high and the width is 58 inches. Glad to know that the top needs to be cut in an arch or else it'll curve on the bottom. I hadn't thought of that. The idea of using screw in hooks in the arch and then using drapery pins to attach is a great idea. I'll have to look for something like that. I don't live in the states right now. I'm living in Germany for a few years, so I'll have to find a do-it-yourself shop somewhere nearby where I can look for hooks and things.

Thanks!

I was born in Germany, and still have relatives there :D I don't know what sort of stores they have there, but I'm sure they have hardware stores. You should be able to get the supplies you need there. If any Ikea's are there, you could try them, too.
