Can anyone suggest the easiest way to lower the mantel over my fireplace? It is too high and the fireplace is an eyesore in our smaller family room. The frame presently stands on ceramic hearth with ceramic tiles around insert. Thanks in advance.

Can you post a picture of what you are dealing with? Sometimes lowering the mantel is not an option due to the heat given off by the fireplace versus the projection of the mantel.
Also, just for info, no sales pitch, etc. go to http://www.chandlerscarpentry.com, and look on "projects three" to see one I did for a customer with the tile surround, etc. Is this similar to what you have? Post back and let us all see what we can come up with.
