I broke the window in my exterior door. It is one of those stanley steel pre-hung doors. The glass is double pane, i was wondering it the glass unit is one piece that can be replaced. Just the outside pane broke. If it is one unit, i mean the two panes are sealed, it shouldn't be much of a problem, famous last words:D just wondering if anyone has had any experience doing this.

You could contact Stanley and see if they sell replacements, or go to a local glass dealer. Unless it is in a wierd design, they can have a double pane made up for you in a matter of days. I will have to be replaced as a unit, however, just to cure your curiosity.

Hey Bill,
Years ago I worked at a company called Milliken Millworks out of Warren, Michigan. They are a huge supplier of prehung doors, both interior and exterior. I'm assuming the frame around the window is plastic. Those "lites" or windows are, in most cases double pane units that are easily removed with a screw driver. On the inside of the door look for what appears to be a dowel covering the screw holes, gently pop them out. If the door is painted you should run a utility knife along the frame where it meets the door itself. I would contact the manufacturer prior to removing the unit to be sure they have a replacement in stock or know where to get one. Is there a company called SAF-TI GLASS in your area? If so call them, they can help!
