2 questions please. I took the tile off the bathroom wall. The wallboard paper is off in some places. Can I put a thin coat of mud over it, seal it and then put beadboard on? (2)I took the little mini tiles off the floor. Around where the sink/cabinet will go, I need about 3" more buildup from the existing mortar bed. How best to do that. many thanks

If you are going to install beadboard, the repair would be minimal, if at all, since you are going to cover it up anyway. Your method is fine. Now, the beadboard will take the beating the tiles were intended to do. Are you confident that it will do the job? Remember moisture.
I went back and re-read the post, and as I understand you have a 3" void in the floor where the vanity was? Three inches is a long way down! I have never seen a 3" deep floor, so if you could, clarify your situation, as I don't want to give bad advice.

sorry for the wording. i meant that between the cabinet base and the tile floor. the old cab. was 36" and this one is 30". I boobooed on the size, but figured it didn't matter that much - tile i realized now i have to center the cabinet and have to fill inn the 6" where the old cabinet stopped. It's such a small space...could i just use mortar up to the level of the old bed and then tile? thanks ahead
