Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate Flooring - Polyurethane application advice?

I have oak strip floors that I have sanded. They were refinished once by a "professional" but the finish didn't last and the floors were badly sanded - rippled. I have now sanded back to smooth and am satisfied with the "level" of the floor, but am looking for advice on the application of the oil-based polyurethane. I have the applicator pad (lambs-wool on a broomstick) but since it's neither a roller nor a brush, I figure that there are some good application tips available.

How do I eliminate end of stroke lap marks?
One way application or back and forth?
All of the other things I haven't thought about?
Speciic brands to use or to avoid?
I have been told that glossy finishes are more durable - correct?

Have you thought about rolling the finish?

Dragging a T-bar takes some perfecting. Make sure you keep a 4" wide pour of finish down your drag line.

Glossy is not more durable. Who told you that?

Gloss will show every little scratch.

Satin or semi-gloss.

Thanks for the info. I discounted roller application because I assumed it would leave bubbles. Maybe if you go slow enough? Or does it just flow out?

Any advice on specific brands?
