What a great forum this is. I have been so confused with all the "advise and recommendations" I really don't know what to use anymore. We have a laminate flooring selected and originally were using 1/4 inch cork. This will be placed on concrete flooring, slab floor no crawl space. I know that a vapour barrier will need to be used which originally the installer did not do. The salesperson suggested a better result would be a product called "quiet walk" as it is from the same manufacturer as the laminate flooring. My research on line tells me that cork is a good product as an underlay and would work well on concrete. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I'd go with the quite walk, made by the manufacturer of the laminate.

Are you referring to MP Global Product's QuietWalk? If so, I am also considering this underlayment for a 3/8" engineered wood floor. I'd also be interested in hearing what other's think. I have to make a decision soon as the flooring has just arrived.

Individual manufacturers of laminate flooring have their very own specific instructions for subfloor preparation, acclimation, underlayment, and installation. Go with manufacturer's recommendations to maintain warranty and to prevent installation problems.
