I have some older cabinets in my kitchen. They are stikll in very goood shape just a bad/old color. As far as price and labor what would be the way to go, reface (new doors) or refinish.
I want to change the cabinets to a darker oak color than they are now.

Also, the drawers in the kitchen roll like @#&%. They are under mounted. What would be a good price for new drawer slides including installation.

I am trying to decide the same thing for my kitchen.
Anyone want to comment on this?

Your best bet would be to get estimates from several contractors. Labor prices can vary greatly in different regions.

If you can get by with lightly sanding the cabinets and applying a coat or 2 of tinted poly/varnish it would be the cheapest way to go.

I've never liked the bottom drawer guides, IMO having a guide on each side works better. Depending on how your cabinets are constructed there might not be enough room to install guides on the sides.

For what it would cost to get a quality refacing job and after comparing cost with new cabinets you may likely opt for the new cabinets. There are lesser expensive laminated refacing kits and refacing options such as laminating a new face on existing doors. In talking with these customers, most report cases of delamination and regrets that they didn't go with new cabinets.

There are good, better, best (and custom!) levels of quality, warranty and price when shopping for cabinets. There are cabinets that will meet your budget. First, decide what your budget is and take your kitchen measurements to a local kitchen designer or home center. If you are handy, you can install your own cabinets.

If you have a limited budget, many paint the cabinets and update hardware for a new look. They do it all the time on HGTV! Then, when budget allows, you can get a new counter. If drawer boxes are in good shape, you can order new side or undermounted drawer glide systems for your drawer boxes.
