ceiling fan motor making a humming noise. what do you think it is.

May not be the motor. Do you have a light fixture(s) attached to it? If so, remove the globes, place a rubber band around the detent that the screws tighten down on and replace them. This sometimes sounds like a humming motor. If it is truly the motor humming, it may be time for a new fan. They don't last forever.
