I put in a new tub surround about a year ago. About every three months my caulking around the tub and surround pulls away from the surround. What am I doing wrong? Is there any special cleaner I should be useing before I caulk? Thanks George

If your tub is plastic, fiberglass or light steel, it could be flexing if there is not a mortarbed under the tub. You caulk and then when the tub is filled with water and a person, the sides of the tub move and tear the caulking. Since it is hard to reset the tub, you may want to try a new method of caulking it. remove all the old caulk and clean all surfaces well. I like to use denatured alcohol for the final cleaning. Then put down an old towel and get some things that weigh quite a bit (I used concrete blocks) then fill as far as possible with water. Careful not to splash water where you will be caulking or it will not stick. After you have your weight in the tub, do your recaulk job. Let the caulk fully cure before draining the water and removing the weight. The reason for doing this is that caulk can relax but it doesn't extend well. By caulking with the tub flexed, you have removed the stretching of the caulk when the tub is filled and someone gets in it. Good luck.
