I am interested in making draperies for my bedroom. I have bought wooden rods and rings. What would I need to do to make lined draperies that have a pleated look but aren't so complicated to make. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Pleated draperies are not that hard to make, but have you considered using pleater tape? You sew the tape on at the bottom and top, pull the strings and insert the pleater hooks which will hang on the rings. You should be able to buy this at Joann's or Hancocks.

I knew I can do that but I think that pleated drapes are so "hard" looking. I was hoping for something softer but would look good on the wooden rings.

The new relaxed pleated draperies are not hard looking. They're made with heavy interlining, no buckram, and the pleats are soft and rounded. However, if you're not interested in sewing pleats, try this. Sew your rings on every 8 to 12", then pull the fabric, between the rings, towards you, then kind of karate chop the middle. This will create a pleated look. However, this will only work if you're going to leave them stationary. If you want to open and close them everyday, you would have to do this every time you open them.
