I am a new home owner (little over a year) and know next to nothing about this. As I understand it I have a dual zone furnace. I have noticed for about the past week a knocking sound when the fan switches off. Also have noticed that the upper zone does not appear to be switching on, but warm air is coming out of the vents whenever the lower zone switches on. It makes the upstairs very warm (about 7 to 8 degrees warmer than downstairs). Is this a problem with thermostat or furnace and is this something I can correct or do I need to have it serviced?

This is why we dont put 2 zones off one furnace in a home. Check the dampers for the zone controls in the duct first. Also check the bypass valve that should be in the duct. Check one zone at a time and see what works or dont work with the dampers.
