In my basement I just remodeled the rooms with new doors and molding. At the bottom of the walls are open gaps. They range from about 6" to about 8". The walls are plaster and the owner before me just had some rough cut wood tacked to the bottom to cover it up. It looks like the plaster is about 1/2" thick. Problem is they are irregular and the plaster is sort of textured. I want to put up molding or just baseboard cove, but I have to "fill" in this area.
I thought of cutting drywall and liquid nails then taping the joints, as well as filling it in with joint compound and using some metal lathe for support and surface area.
Any suggestions would be great.

I'm not a 'plaster guy' so I would use drywall. Not sure why you would need any lath with the drywall. There are plasters here that could better answer how to correctly finish the gap with plaster.
The only other solution would be to use 9" tall base to hide the gap. Depending on the rest of the basement and woodwork it may or may not look approriate.
