My 40 gallon water tank has decided to spring a leak at the drain valve, not thedrain valve but besides the drain valve from around the plastic eustechon. It is a very spritly leak that just covered me , my floor and the surrounding area. Any ideas? Can you have a broken pipe leading from the heater to the valve? Or is the tank kaput after 6 years? Can you replace said connecting pipe? Desperate to know. Would like to buy one tommorow if tank is believed to be dead or dying.

medrepairs, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
There is no pipe to the valve. The whole valve unscrews and you can replace it with a brass drain valve. That is, unless the threaded part it screws into is cracked. Then its time for a new tank. Remove the old valve (after turning off the gas, cold water inlet valve and draining the tank). Check around where it screws into the tank for cracks. Then go buy another drain valve. Wrap about 4 wraps of teflon tape around the threads of the new valve (or use pipe joint compound) and screw it in tight. Good luck.
