I have a Maytag Model PER5750QAW electric smoothtop. The right front (large) burner has quit heating. I am thinking about purchasing the burner and replacing it. Is there anything different about this smoothtop that should get me to call a service person? I am used to doing repairs like this but I have never attempted a smoothtop.

You need to find out whether the burner is the source of the problem first. You will need to do some electrical troubleshooting to find out for sure. Otherwise you could end up buying parts you don’t need. As far as working on it you need to be careful about how you handle the glass top. Break it and you’re looking at about $300 to replace it.
