:alarm: I need a 90 deg. gear box and found one off a JD lawnmower. I dont know the size of the shaft but the guy say its a 1:1.5 ratio. Im going to be running it with a 12.5 hp briggs, do you think this gear box will hold up? My only other chioce is a 5/8in shaft gear box but I would like the one thats heavier duty.

The ratio does not tell you anything about how much power the gearbox can handle.
I don't know of many JD tractors with less than 12 hp so I would guess the gearbox is probably a good one to try.

I emailed the guy to ask the shaft size, I found the 5/8 shaft gear box was rated at 5hp. I would think that shaft size would be best way to tell HP.
