Accidentally posted this in the general elec. forum: I am trying to replace a ceiling fan with light kit, with a similar ceiling fan with light kit. There is a regular light switch on the wall and a 2-wire cable from the switch to the ceiling box: red and white. The fan has 3 wires to the ceiling box: white, blue (light) and black (fan). The old fan (which was actually brand new, but too big for the room) had it wired white to white and combined the blue/black wires, attaching both to the hot red wire. I tried this exact setup and and for some reason it's not working. The first time it blew the fuse, and the second time the fan turned on but it made some sort of poppoing sound and the light won't turn on. What could I possibly be missing? I am at a total loss. Thanks very much!

Possably you have shorted a wire in the assembly of the fan. It is a pain I know (been there), but try the assembly again.
