When I moved in,adimmer switch on the living room wallhghad cut the dimmer switch wires, capped them off and filled in the hole where the swith had been. I then put a ceiling fan in place of the light fixture that was in there. When I turned on the light switch, I had power to the fan and light and I controlled them by the little chains and everything was good. It has been a year now and the fan/light just quit working. I took it down and hooked a power cord up to it and it works like a champ. Therefore the problems must be in my wiring. I have three sets of wires in the ceiling block. one set is hooked to nothing, the other two have their black wires twisted and clamped with a wire nut and the the red wire from each twisted and clamped together leaving the white wire from each hanging loose. I have no power at the light switch until I hooked a test light up to two of the wires. I then have power at the light switch but now light comes on at the ceiling. I have tried hooking every possible way. I don't want to cut the black and red wires loose because I know I did not use them when I origionally hooked the fan/light up. I need help please

I cut the dimmer switch wires, capped them off and filled in the hole where the swith had been.Unfortunately, this created a hazard and a serious code violation.
I have tried hooking every possible way. This is ill-advised. Not everything that works is safe. Repeat that as often as necessary. You might not (or might) kill yourself or burn down the house with your experiments. But even worse is if you get it to work, and then walk away. You could leave a latent hazard that could start a fire or shock someone 6 months later.
You need to put down your tools, go acquire at least three books on home wiring, and read them cover to cover. It's is otherwise not safe to proceed.

You need to tell us all the wires in the box. You need to tell us which ones have power on them. You need to tell us how many switches control this fixture.
You might need to break open the wall and find those capped wires.

OK, I've simplfied matters somewhat. I went into the attic and removed the remote wire that I cut earlier. I also removed the wire from the remote switch in the attic to the ceiling box. This leaves two (3-ways wires) in the ceiling block. One goes to the wallswitch with the black and red on the bottom and white on the top. The other red/white and black goes to the switch box. The white is power. How do I connect the wires at the box to work with a ceiling fan. Also sorry I sounded like a smarty earlier, just having a bad day. Anyway thanks for the help.
