Well, my friends and i have just bought a townhouse. There is a large basement and we are using it as a room for two people. We plan on just getting futons and still use it as a basement. What is the best way for us to get our "Privacy" when we need it? We both have girlfriends, and well, both of us will want our privacy.

How should we get our privacy?

Owning the townhome opens up a lot of options, from putting something on the door to the basement telling others to stay out all the way to putting up permanent walls and creating two different rooms. Up to you, what's your idea of budget and effort that can be spent on this?

With renting, there is no way (unless you get the permission of the landlord) to install a wall that would ensure privacy. You could, however, use free-standing screens, or run a heavy wire across between the walls, affixing it to the walls with screws, and hang drapes or sheets using drapery or shower hooks on the wire. They could be opened or pulled closed to give some privacy. You would need to make sure that the wire doesn't sag, or you could possibly use pvc pipe that you would join, and then place into brackets on the walls.

Not knowing the distance that would need to be spanned, it's hard to tell what would work best....

Blessings,

As a tenant, your options dwindle quickly. Debbie has already mentioned everything I can think of.

if people are using the basement as a bedroom (sleeping), i hope there's a window, big enough for escaping during a fire.

I think legally there has to be in most places.
