I have several small humidifiers in the house that all have permanent inserts instead of replaceable pads. We have hard water here and I removed them and soaked them in vinegar overnight. Now the metallic grilles that make up these things have a violet residue on them. What is it and how do I get rid of it?

I honestly never hear or seen of this before.

it maybe a chemcial reaction of the metal and vinger??
