opinions on this? I want to used recessed lights rather than a light bar over the mirror, we are going w/a modern look--brushed nickel fixtures in sleeker design, kind of a abstact look to the paint design.

If you use the mirror to look at your face (e.g., shaving, putting on makeup, combing your hair), you're going to want light that shines directly on your face from a lot of angles. Recessed lights work okay over a shower or tub or toilet, but I think they do not work at all for the mirror. Recessed lights do not distribute light well. There's a reason why light bars are so common over a mirror.

And for the ultimate mirror lighting, look in to fixtures that go on either side of the mirror. There are lots of real sleek ones out these days that will work with the look you propose.

Using walls lights on either side of or above mirror and recessed lighting on seperate switches is the best.
