I have a State Select electric water heater. I have changed the heating elements about once a year for the last 3 years. Again, I wanted to changed the bottom heating element but the junction is very corroded. Any suggestions on how to remove the element? The unit is about 15 years old. Is it time to replace unit with something new?
Thanks!

Get a good hex socket and breaker bar. That will do it. In most cases the elements are fairly easy to remove.
15 years is pretty old. You should start to think about replacement.

I called a local plumber and he said that water heater has had a good life. I went to Lowes and bought a replacement.
