OK, I've been thinking about updating my exterior gas furnace / a/c to a heat pump, but I have no idea what kind of price range I'll be looking into. I don't even know if I have the money to do it now or not. Before I call someone out, can one of you folks give me an idea of how much a heat pump and install of it will be? I understand it will be a rough estimate and I'm willing to live with that. I'm just looking for an idea.

Just to give you some idea, I have an 1800 sq. ft. house in NW Arkansas. Mild winters, and hot humid summers. I already have the duct work installed and a closet for the air handler ready to go. Feel free to ask any more questions and I'll answer best I can.

lots of depends here...

size of system?

any ductwork modifications required?

market costs for area you live?

var speed air handler vs conventional air handler

top of line, mid range, or low end/budget model

a new air cleaner cabinet/thermostat

make certain you request a written Manual J heat/cool load calculation for sizing new HVAC system!

I know this isn't exactly the same setup, but this is what I got quoted for my job - included brand new Trane outdoor unit and air handler, new duct work and an electrostatic air filter. This is a 3.5 ton unit that is probably a mid-range system. Also note it is a 13 seer. Traditional air handler. I got $8400 from one person and $9800 from another. Don't know how to break out the equipment from the duct work and labor associated with that.

For what it's worth...
