My bathroom sink won't hold water because it quite suddenly developed a leak around the flange surrounding the stopper opening. The stopper has already been eliminated as the source of the leak. I assume I need to remove the flange and reseal it. How is this done? If for some reason, I can't remove the flange, is there a sealant or caulk I can put around the flange edge to stop the leak. Thanks for your help.

nonhandiman, welcome to the DIY Forums.
Under the sink at the top of the drain pipe, there is a nut. Remove it and the rubber washer above it.Then remove the trap. You shoud now be able to push the drain flange up and remove it. Clean the bottom of the flange and where it seats in the sink. Roll a "worm" of plumbers putty and place it around the drain hole of the sink. Place the flange back in, reinstall the washer, tighten the nut and replace the trap. You can remove excess putty from around the flange with a rag. Good luck.
