I have bedroom furniture set from Walmart (Saunders). Its currenlty ina color I dont like and I just want to paint it all in an espresso or black color. However I read that Saunder furniture is processed wood (particle board type ) with paper laminate finish.Any ideas how I can achieve the look I want.
Any suggestions and help would be great. (I am newbie to these things)

If you prime it with a shellac based primer you should be able to top coat with latex or oil.

I would be leary of sanding it. There are several primers available in spray cans. You want a primer that dries fast and hard so it won't lift the so called laminate. Both BIN and kilz have spray cans.

True, most Saunders from Wal*Mart is a paper "laminate"

I would not sand

I would attempt to seal it w/o it lifting

I would suggest the BIN

Then paint it with a good quality paint
If you want black go for Sherwin Williams Deep Accents
It will be twice as much as a cheap paint, but you'll only need two well applied coats, as opposed to 4 or 5
