Just completed a full renovation of a bathroom. Looks great, but for the old door jamb. As I took a look at it to prep it for painting, I realized it is in bad shape. Looks like 20 years worth of quickie paint jobs has taken its toll. There is peeling paint, old drips that have been painted over, etc.
What's an effective way to strip this junk off and start with a fresh coat or two?
Thank you.

You can either use a stripper to remove all [or most] of the paint or do some aggresive sanding.

I'd probably go with a stripper first, and follow up with some sanding.
Have you had success with any of the available paint strippers on the market?
Just an aside: might it be more cost effective and easier to go with a whole new frame?

Replacing the casing would be an easy quick job. Replacing the jamb is bit more complicated. I seldom do any stripping so I am no expert on various strippers, from what I've heard the peel away stripper works good and is not as messy. Most strippers work well but you need to follow the directions. Apply it once [don't over brush it on] let it work, scrape and repeat.
