I just bought a 2 yr old house... have noticed that there is a crack on both sides of a door @ at the same corner in the wallboard on both inner and outter wall..

how can I repair this since I was planning on painting? Is this normal?

It happens. Take some joint compound and drywall tape to cover the crack, when dry recoat and sand as needed. It probably won't come back.
